Updates from Brave Tide: Meet Tess & Tide!

38164487304_252f331694_z

Hello, and thanks for stopping by!

We know things have been quiet here lately, as no recent flight missions have been scheduled, but we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to introduce our latest Brave Tide ambassadors: Tess and Tide!

Tess and Tide, sisters from the same litter, traveled from GPA Tampa to their forever home in the Hilt household in December 2017! They have been such wonderful companions and enjoy playing with the kids, running together in the yard, and spending their days lazily lounging on the sofas.

We’re thankful to have Tess and Tide in our lives, and if you have the chance, take a look back through some of our favorite Brave Tide missions shared here (a few of our favorites are the puppy flight, a look at flying to forever homes, and one of the times when Brave Tide was featured in the news: Six Greyhounds jet set from Florida to Central PA in search of a permanent home!

If you’re looking to bring a greyhound (or two or three!) into your family, many adoption groups currently have long wait lists due to the response and interest to adopt following the passing of Amendment 13 in Florida which essentially ended greyhound racing effective the end of 2020. Please be patient in your commitment to adopt, and reach out to your local adoption groups for guidance. In the meantime, get involved and volunteer, or donate to your favorite animal welfare organization.

Thank you for visiting and your continued support!

Goodbye to Lily

Lily2

When we adopted Lily the greyhound in 2010, she quickly became a best friend to her big sister London. London was quiet and reserved while Lily had an outgoing and playful spirit. They enjoyed spending time together and quickly became inseparable. After London passed away a few months ago, Lily’s eagerness to snuggle and cuddle with family members seemed to grow.

The cold winter months were made to feel a lot warmer with Lily by our sides. Just as winter began to give way to spring, Lily began to limp. As we did with London, we immediately sought medical attention for Lily. The X-rays revealed cancer, and it is with tremendous sadness that we share the news that Lily passed away.

At Brave Tide, our mission is to save lives one flight at a time. We know firsthand how much joy the animals we transport bring to their forever families. While very sad, the passing of our greyhounds opens our home to more dogs waiting to join their forever families. London and Lily will live on in our hearts, and they will continue to inspire us on the ground and in the air.

Stay tuned for more information about future transport missions. Thanks for your support and encouragement!

End of Year Update

london_1

A message from Jason Hilt, Brave Tide President:

As we move closer to the new year, I wanted to send a note of thanks from the Brave Tide family for your support throughout 2016 and provide an update on one of our Brave Tide ambassadors. Transporting animals over great distances by air is a complex undertaking that is made much easier with the support of so many caring individuals, families, and animal welfare groups. From words of encouragement to flight sponsorships, every contribution is appreciated!

Our family adopted London the greyhound in 2009 after she was bounced from her first adoptive home. A change of scenery seemed to do the trick as London quickly became part of our family. She was joined a year later by Lily the greyhound. Our two retired racing greyhounds enjoyed running around the fenced-in yard, family walks, playing in the snow, snuggling on their dog beds, and trips to the beach for many years. As London got closer to her 11th birthday, she began to slow down just a bit. In late October there was a sudden limp and signs of discomfort. X-rays revealed cancer, and we are sad to share that London passed away a few weeks ago. London is sorely missed, but she is a big reason Brave Tide exists today. Having her in our lives for so many years was truly a blessing.

We hope you all have a wonderful holiday season, and we look forward to big things to come in 2017. Thank you!

Six greyhounds flew with Brave Tide to forever homes in August. The retired racers traveled from Florida to Pennsylvania in the cool cabin and slept most of the way. Flight photos are posted on our website and Facebook page.

August Puppy Flight

Three_Puppies

The puppy flight was a tremendous success. Brave Tide has transported over 130 greyhounds but this was the first greyhound puppy flight. After enduring a tough start to their lives, the three puppies flew to their forever homes in early August. Spunky, Fenway, and Billy were born 8 weeks ago and experienced health issues that required hospitalization. Luckily they had caring humans to help nurse them back to health. They continue to get stronger each day, and we were fortunate to be able to help them travel from Kansas to Connecticut. Below is a time lapse video of the flight. The puppies spent most of the trip sleeping. They arrived happy and excited to join their new families.

Early July Flight

File4

Our July transport flight was beautiful. We transported 4 retired racing greyhounds from West Virginia to Connecticut. 3 of the greyhounds are recovering from fractures suffered at the race track. With the help of Greyhound Rescue and Rehabilitation in New York, the dogs will be ready to join their forever homes very soon. Flight updates were posted to our Facebook page and website.

February Flight

Sandy

The six greyhounds were perfect passengers on the flight. The day started with a beautiful sunrise and clear skies. The weather cooperated along the route, and the dogs enjoyed a smooth ride all the way to Pennsylvania. Special thanks to GPA Tampa and Nittany Greyhounds for helping to make the flight a success. See below for a few photos from the trip!

New Year

10

A special thank you to all of the animal welfare organizations, volunteers, donors, and sponsors for supporting our efforts. The milestones we reached in 2015 were due to the generosity of individuals, families, and groups across the country. Many homes welcomed new 4-legged family members this year, and many more families will open their homes and hearts in 2016. Thanks for the support throughout the year. Stay tuned for information about our ambitious plans for 2016 and beyond! Below are links to support our efforts and a few photos from 2015.
