May Flights – Week 2
May flights continue this week for a trip from Florida to Virginia and Pennsylvania. Six greyhounds will be traveling from Tallahassee, FL to Norfolk, VA and Pottstown, PA. Flight updates will be posted to our Facebook page and website. Donors and sponsors are needed! May Flights – Week 1
The first May flight was a great trip for the dogs and pilot. The trip started in Tampa, FL and after a few hours of flying the first three passengers were delivered to Akron, Ohio. After a quick walk and a few photos, the pilot and remaining three passengers headed to their final destination in Pottstown, PA.

Support Brave Tide at Rita’s!
Rita’s Water Ice in Boyertown, PA is graciously hosting a fundraising event for the Brave Tide Foundation on Thursday, April 24, from 6-9 PM. A portion of all sales during that time will be donated to Brave Tide and we need your support! Please spread the word and share with everyone in our local area who could come to Rita’s for some sweet treats! Representatives from Brave Tide will be there sharing information about our organization. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and the opportunity to win other fun items from the Rita’s prize wheel!

March Flights – Week 2
The avionics upgrade is complete and March has brought warmer weather so we are gearing up for a big month. The March flights will include over 20 dogs flying to foster and forever homes. The first two flights will occur the second week of March with passengers from Florida and West Virginia flying to Pennsylvania and NewYork. Avionics Upgrade
While the weather outside is frightful, the Brave Tide airplane is undergoing an avionics upgrade. The goal of the upgrade is to improve safety for the pilots and passengers and increase situational awareness in adverse weather conditions. The work includes a WAAS upgrade, installation of an Aspen Evolution EFD1000 Pro PFD, integration of the collision avoidance system, and removal of obsolete equipment to free up valuable panel space. We are looking forward to flying with the new and improved equipment. Photos of the upgrade will be posted as they become available.

Update:
The work is progressing without any major issues. The obsolete avionics equipment was removed along with many feet of old wire, zip ties, and mounting brackets. Removing the old equipment creates space for the new equipment and also decreases the overall weight of the plane increasing the useful load.

Flying to Forever Homes
A special message from Jason Hilt, Foundation President:
The flight from Orlando to State College went off without a hitch. The passengers were calm and slept most of the flight. The most active greyhound on the trip was Flyer who spent much of the flight quietly looking out the window at the ever changing landscapes. We would like to thank God’s Greyts Greyhound Group, Nittany Greyhounds, the volunteers in Florida and Pennsylvania, all of the sponsors and contributors, and the hospitality of representatives at Apopka Airport in Florida and University Park airport in Pennsylvania. The warm welcome by everyone at the University Park airport was wonderful. Planning and coordination by the many people on the ground made the trip a success and laid the framework for future successful flights. We look forward to our next transport flight and are truly appreciative of everyone’s contribution.
Flying to Forever Homes
On January 16, 2014, the Brave Tide Foundation plane and crew flew from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, to Orlando, Florida, to arrange the transport of six beautiful greyhounds from God’s Greyts Greyhounds in FL to the Nittany Greyhounds group in PA. The flight en route was filled with stunning east coast scenery including views of the Chesapeake and Florida coastline. After a brief stop in South Carolina, the crew arrived in Orlando safe and sound and ready to prepare for the dogs’ flight home to Nittany Greyhounds!
