May Flights – Week 1

Stromboli_1

The plane, crew, and passengers are ready for the flight next week! We are extremely excited to get back in the air to help transport 6 retired racing greyhounds from Florida to Ohio. We are looking forward to bringing the dogs to their foster and forever homes.

Travel by air is safe, fast, efficient, and slightly more expensive than ground transportation. We believe the many benefits outweigh the increased cost. Please consider donating $5, $10, or more to the Foundation via PayPal or by check to the mailing address below. Every dollar donated goes toward the direct transport costs. For $100, donors can sponsor the transport of a specific greyhound and receive a boarding pass and sponsorship certificate with the dog’s photo, bio, and travel information!

Looking forward to spring!

While we wait patiently for the weather to improve, plans are being made for our next round of transport flights. The Brave Tide ambassadors are ready to trade the snow piles and cold temperatures for green grass and warm afternoons.

The pilots are ready to get back to flying and we know families are looking forward to welcoming their new four-legged family members. Our next round of transport flights are being planned for late April. We will post passenger photos and flight information when the trips are confirmed.

Transport Flight Photos

As we look back on a memorable 2014, there were a number of flights that stood out due to amazing scenery, outstanding airport service, and wonderful 4-legged passengers. Below are a few photos from those trips. We are looking forward to transporting more animals and getting our educational outreach programs off the ground in 2015. Thank you to all of our supporters for your generosity and contributions to our organization!

Runway Update

The Brave Tide plane is safe and sound in the hangar at our home airport. The runway resurfacing project is well underway, and we are looking forward to trying out the newly paved runway soon. Here are a few photos from last week prior to repaving. We will post a few more photos of the progress soon!

Brave Tide Foundation Receives Grant from ASCPA

We are thrilled to announce that the Brave Tide Foundation is the recipient of a generous grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASCPA) to help fund Brave Tide’s animal transport flight operational expenses.

Brave Tide has transported 70 animals to their foster and forever homes in 2014 covering over 15,000 miles in the process. The grant funds will allow the Foundation to transport many more animals and continue to fulfill our mission throughout the remainder of 2014.

Dr. Jason Hilt, Brave Tide Foundation president, said, “We are very appreciative of the ASPCA for their contributions to our animal transport efforts. Through the ASPCA’s generosity, Brave Tide can continue its transport services to help animals in need. We are so grateful to the ASPCA for this contribution and are happy to have the support of such an incredible animal welfare organization.”

Fall 2014

As you can see from the map, we have travelled many miles to help animals in need in 2014. Our home airport was fortunate to receive state and federal grant funds to complete a runway resurfacing project. With the resurfacing project underway, we have time to reflect on the completed flights and plan our next round of transport flights. The fall and winter bring cooler temperatures and smoother air aloft so we look forward to our upcoming flights!

We need your help!

We need your help. Please share with friends, family, and animal welfare groups!

Brave Tide transported over 70 animals in only 3 months in early 2014. We were on pace to transport well over 200 animals in 2014 to their forever homes! Over the past 4 months, you have probably noticed that our flight operations have been on hold. We didn’t want to post specifics until we had a complete picture to share with our supporters.

We upgraded the avionics with the goal of making the plane as safe as possible. To our shock and disappointment, the work was not done correctly. We have been working for the past 4 months to get the many issues created by the incorrect installation fixed. It has not only caused dozens of postponed and cancelled flights, but fixing the issues has also cost thousands of dollars. Much of our financial reserve has been exhausted during the process and we have arrived at a point that we need to reach out for help. In order to resume transport flights, we need to raise money. Donations can be made via PayPal or by check. We know that many of our current supporters have previously donated and sponsored dogs. That is why we are asking you to share with friends, family members, animal welfare groups, and businesses so that we can get back in the air as soon as possible. We also have sponsor opportunities available. Information about the sponsor program is available on the sponsor page: Sponsors

New Sponsor Opportunities

Screen Shot 2014-08-10 at 11.00.20 AM

Since the start of 2014, Brave Tide has helped transport over 70 animals. The transports are funded by donations and grants covering fuel and airport fees. We continue to expand our missions based on incredible demand and hope to transport many animals in the future.

What is the new sponsor program? We created a new sponsorship program that allows organizations and businesses to add their logo to the Brave Tide airplane. The logos are created by a great local business, Graber Letterin’ Inc., and are noticed at every airport we visit. Graber Letterin’ Inc. created the Petco Foundation logo that currently adorns the Brave Tide plane. See below for a photo of the logo. Sponsor logos will also be included on the Brave Tide website and apparel. Sponsors are needed to keep Brave Tide flying and to help animals in need. Information about the sponsor program is available on the sponsor page: Sponsors

Why are sponsors needed immediately? Maintenance on the Brave Tide plane was completed in July and all issues were addressed. No issues were deferred so the plane is in the absolute safest flying condition. The attention to detail, coupled with the cost of aviation parts and labor, resulted in a large expense. We also covered the majority of the flight expenses for many of the transport flights in 2014 resulting in a rapid decrease of available funds. Moving forward, we outlined a funding model that will allow us to continue flying frequently while keeping the necessary reserves for emergency flights and maintenance expenses.

Aircraft Maintenance

Delaware

The safety of our passengers and pilots is our highest priority. We decided to complete some additional maintenance while the plane was undergoing the annual inspection process. The ‘annual’ is a required inspection of the entire plane from spinner to tail. The additional maintenance will keep us flying safely and efficiently for many years to come. We are grateful to the FAA certified repair station at our home airport for doing such a thorough job!
